The hidden one-acre tract off Bayly Road was once an African American cemetery known to just a few local residents as Silent Hill. Long overgrown and forgotten, only three gravestones, all denoting veterans, remain from well over 100 original burial sites.
But those interred there so long ago will soon be properly memorialized, thanks to the dedicated craftsmanship of Dorchester Career and Technology Center senior welding students, the generosity of C & K Lord, Inc. and Penn Stainless Products, and leadership from the Lower Shore Cemetery Preservation Organization, Inc.
