The Dorchester Banner welcomes readers’ views on topics of public interest.

Town Square is an opinion column to which readers can submit their views. As a true community newspaper, we’re always looking for ways to include local thought and pertinent viewpoints. This column is a way to share those thoughts. Civility and fair comment will always prevail.

PROUD OF AMERICANS: I’ve never been so proud of the American people as I am today we did what the government didn’t do and our voices spoke louder. For the first time since four years ago when I stopped using the title president. But today I will gladly say congratulations President Biden and Vice President Harris.

DISAGREEMENT, FAITH AND PRAYER: Although I do not morally agree with much of the stance that the Democratic Party takes on most of the social issues in this country, and I cannot in good conscience agree with things such as abortion and other issues, it looks like Joe Biden is the next president.
I would be lying if I think the country is headed in the right direction, as I think that America continues to get further and further away from God and a sense of moral accountability. I am not a huge Trump fan either, and I never was.
I always vote for the platform that I believe in more, and that I think aligns closer to Scripture. Morally, I agree with more things that the Republican Party stands for and practices.
But as a Christian, I will pray for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, even if I disagree with them, and pray for our government in these very uncertain times. God is still in ultimate control, and He promises to never leave or forsake His people.
So that is what I choose to put my faith in. And even if I don’t necessarily think it is what is best for the country, I have peace knowing that God knows what He is doing.

PRAYING FOR BETTER: I don’t believe government should align its laws and consequences to God’s word — as God’s judgment is punishment enough for non-repentance of sin. It’s our responsibility to share the good news and let God handle the rest.
But above all else, I’m glad we’re praying for better.
