Rotary Club hears Ironman update

Angie Hengst

CAMBRIDGE — Rotarian Angie Hengst, race director for Ironman Maryland, gave the Rotary Club of Cambridge an update on the Eagleman and Ironman races. She told the members that, for the safety of everyone, the June Eagleman race has been rescheduled to be run the same day as Ironman, Sept. 19.

Ms. Hengst said the plan is to run the Ironman course with adjustments for Eagleman participants. Athletes won’t be racing two full events, which would be more than 4,000 participants. The number will probably be closer to 2,500.

Final plans are still being determined. Ms. Hengst said she expects there will be more adjustments as we get closer to the date.

Ms. Hengst moved to Cambridge 18 years ago. She became involved with Ironman/Eagleman as a volunteer captain in 2011 and volunteer director in 2015. In July 2019, with the untimely death of Gerry Boyle, she was named race director for both competitions.
