The North Dorchester High School girls’ basketball team won the first Small Ball Basketball Christmas Tournament on Dec. 28.

SHILOH — The Lady Eagles will keep the Small Ball Basketball Christmas Tournament trophy at home for at least a year, beating Colonel Richardson 69-55 for the event’s championship on Dec. 28. It was the tournament’s first year, designed by ND Athletic Director Dave Morrissette to be a small school basketball tournament for boys’ and girls’ teams.

The event took place Dec. 27-28 in ND’s new gym. Teams from Col. Richardson, ND, Pocomoke, St. Michaels, and Nandua competed.
Lady Eagle Breisha Cephas led her squad to the win, sinking 42 points. Pocomoke won the boys’ title, beating Nandua 77-60.

“The tournament will feature a traveling trophy for our winners of the boys and girls’ games,” a statement from organizers said. “This trophy will be engraved with the winners of each year and be on display at the winning school for one year, and then be returned to ND for the start of the next year’s tournament.”

In earlier action on Dec. 27, Nandua boys beat North Dorchester, 55-53; and North Dorchester girls beat St. Michaels, 63-32.

The tournament was hosted by NDHS Sports Boosters. “This has potential to be a big fundraiser for the boosters, which means help with purchasing new uniforms, new equipment, etc. for all of NDHS Athletics,” Mr. Morrissette said.
