SHILOH – The North Dorchester High School Lady Eagles volleyball teams swept visiting Pocomoke High School on Monday. The junior varsity girls started the action, going 2-0, followed by the varsity squad and their 3-0 finish.
“This puts us at 3-3,” on the season, Head Coach Carol Hubbard said after the meet. The three losses were to Stephen Decatur, James M. Bennett and Parkside, all bigger schools.
“None of them are out of our reach,” Coach Hubbard said. “We’ll have another shot at them,” before the season is done, she added.
In Game 1, the Eagles lost the first two points, but shrugged off the miscues and got down to business, winning 25-14. The second game saw the greatest margin of victory, ending 25-9.
The Warriors got up to speed in the final game, and led around the halfway mark before the Eagles pulled ahead and won, 25-19.
Much of the ND girls’ dominance came from their powerful serves, many of which scored. “Savannah Nossick and Brooke Harding led in aces,” Coach Hubbard said. “We had 17 aces, and only gave up 3.”
She is optimistic for the rest of the season, as her veterans are putting their experience to work on the court. With six seniors and two juniors returning from last year’s team, “They are really starting to click,” Coach Hubbard said.
And last season ended with a trip to the Regional Championships, not bad for a program then in only its third year.
“We hope to go that far again this year,” Coach Hubbard said. “I feel like the program has come a long way in four years.”
Varsity players are Brooke Harding, Karlie Allen, Kathryn Allen, Georgie Turner, Maggie Meilhammer, Leah Smith, Savannah Nossick, Jocelyn Meyers, Leann Asplen, Danielle Stiles, Jenna Usilton and Anna Hubbard.
The varsity assistant coach is Terri Wright. The junior varsity coach is Billy Jackson.
The Eagles will play next on Monday, at Wicomico High School. Varsity action starts at 5 p.m.
