SHILOH — North Dorchester High School Athletic Director Dave Morrissette has announced the Eagles’ athletes of the month for May. Every month, the school honors its top student/athletes, based not only on their performance in sports, but also for their academic achievements, leadership and behavior.
The students receive awards sponsored by community donors. This month, the varsity athletes were sponsored by the Eagles’ Athletic Booster President Larry Pinkett. The junior varsity/underclassmen were sponsored by Regal Cinemas of Salisbury.
Varsity Tennis Kadie Laramore
The athlete of the month for tennis is Kadie Laramore. A statement from the school said, “Kadie is the epitome of a student athlete. She gives 100 percent in everything she does. On the bus, Kadie is often seen doing her homework. On the courts, she never quits. She strives to be competitive, while maintaining a high level of sportsmanship.”
The statement added that Kadie not only helps other players improve their game, but she is also receptive to coaching.
Varsity baseball Adam Freeman
Coaches Steve Lieske and Billy Jackson nominated Adam, saying he has performed well under difficult circumstances. “He recognizes the team’s shortcomings and still gives everything he has when he steps on the field,” the coaches wrote in a statement. “He has been a consistent hitter the entire season, played one of the most difficult positions on the field, catcher, and played it very well. On top of that, he has the team’s two best starts of the year, both seven-inning performances.”
The coaches said Adam has shown strong leadership, all while still being a sophomore.
JV baseball Garrett Barnes
Coaches Morrissette and Garvey nominated Garrett Barnes for May recognition, saying he is one of the JV boy’s team captains and has taken on a more positive leadership role this year.
“Garrett has really had a great ending to the season, as he finished strong with eight hits in his last four games, with the JV team finishing with three out of four to end the season. Garrett is a very versatile player as well – he has played several different positions this year, including catcher, pitcher, third base, second base, and first base.
Underclassman track and field
Freshman Megan Price is a 400- and 800-meter specialist, two of the most demanding events on the track. She selected these events, which require speed, endurance and a strong work ethic.
“As a freshman, she attacks these events with a level of maturity that is far beyond her years,” a statement from the team said. “She is always focused, and has consistently been one of the top female performers in the 400- and 800-meter events throughout the season. Megan’s work ethic, positive attitude and sense of responsibility to team have earned her the nomination for track and field’s JV/underclassman Athlete of the Month.”
