CAMBRIDGE — The Vikings’ varsity girls’ basketball team put on a dominating performance Thursday, beating the North Caroline Bulldogs 47-27.

C-SD’s greater height paid off under the hoop, as sophomore JaZhana Butler couldn’t be budged. Freshman Aisha Wright is already making her presence felt, grabbing rebounds for the Vikings, and senior Paige Bleyer’s jumping ability and wide reach allow her to scoop up seemingly everything that comes her way.

JaZhana put the first points on the board about a minute in, and C-SD’s stout defense just about shut down the Bulldogs for the rest of the first quarter, which ended at 9-2.

Make that just about the first half. The visitors were able to put only 6 points up through the second period, though they did pick up the pace in the third and fourth quarters.

With the Vikes not quite as sharp or energetic in the third period, the Bulldogs sank a few buckets to make it 33-14 at the fourth quarter began. Very determined defense from the visitors led to a 35-22 tally with 4:54 left in the game, and some momentum for the Bulldogs.

But a surging defense and renewed scoring gave C-SD a 45-23 lead and momentum of their own with two minutes left, on their way to a 20-point victory.
