C-SD football advances in playoffs

CAMBRIDGE — The Vikings will play in the second round of the playoffs next week, after beating the Havre de Grace Warriors 47-34 tonight. C-SD came into the game with a record of 7-2, while the Warriors were at 2-7 — but that didn’t mean the Harford County men would be pushovers.

In fact, the Warriors had played strong 3A and 4A opponents in their Upper Chesapeake region, and though they had a losing record, they were competitive against the Vikings. When the first quarter ended with the visitors in the lead, 14-3, it looked like that 2-7 record might be pretty deceptive.

But 20 unanswered points later, the first half ended with the Vikings ahead 23-14, and they stayed in the lead through the rest of the game. Top running back Khalik Beasley is a threat to score every time he gets his hands on the ball, and he lived up to his reputation with repeated trips into the end zone.

Kicker James Frazier was reliable as usual on extra points, and made a splash in the playoffs, with his first two field goals of the season. Next week’s game will be Friday, kickoff at 7 p.m.

More details will be added to this article as statistics become available.
