BREAKING NEWS: CPD names shooting victim

Allen Street in Cambridge was blocked by yellow police tape in the early afternoon Thursday, after Tavaar Chester was shot and killed.

CAMBRIDGE — At approximately 10:44 a.m. Thursday, Cambridge Police Department (CPD) officers responded to a 911 call for a subject shot in the 800 block of Allen Street. Officers located the 32-year-old victim, Tavaar Chester of 769 Alex Way in Cambridge, unresponsive, sitting in his vehicle with a single gunshot wound, a statement from the CPD said Friday afternoon.

CPD Chief Mark Lewis said Thursday evening, “It is a homicide.”

Mr. Chester was transported to University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester, where he succumbed to his injury.

Also responding to the scene were Cambridge Rescue Fire Company (1), Medics, and Ambulance Secretary (16). Cambridge Police are continuing their investigation.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at the Cambridge Police Department, at 410-228-3333,” the statement said. “The Cambridge Police Department will release more information as it becomes available.”
