Alumni and community members are invited to visit North Dorchester High School for a final dance, before the building is demolished.

HURLOCK — In the fall of 1954, several communities closed their small-town high schools and consolidated into the brand-new North Dorchester High School. The first class graduated in 1955. Since then, NDHS has touched the lives of tens of thousands of North Dorchester Countians. In a few weeks the “Class of 2019” will mark the end of an era with the demolition of the school beginning soon after graduation.

To celebrate the life of this icon the North Dorchester Sports Boosters will be holding “The Last Dance at NDHS” on May 17, 2019. This is an open house style event that will consist of tours led by current students, music, light refreshments and plenty of room to reminisce with alumni and community members.

Denise Aldridge, a long time English teacher at NDHS shares her immense pride for the school and excitement for what is to come, “I came to North Dorchester as a seventh grader, and 36 of my 42 year teaching career has been here, so when I say ND has been my home for a long time, I mean it! But I am ready to make new memories and cannot wait to move to the new and improved North Dorchester High. # EagleForever.”

Dan Hortert, another NDHS teaching icon, sums up the sentiments of many perfectly, “My feelings will certainly be bittersweet because the old ND carries with it the images of so many wonderful memories from the 60 years it has served our community. The memories will always remain and now we can add the expectation that the new North Dorchester High School will provide our community with a foundation designed to make our future Eagle students soar to even higher heights.”

The last dance will take place 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on May 17, 2019. There will be a ticket fee of $10 for adults 19 and over to be collected at the door. Children 18 and under are free. Proceeds will benefit the NDHS Sports Boosters.

The NDHS Sports Boosters raise money to help support the athletic programs at NDHS. Their purpose is to provide athletic opportunities to all students, fill equipment needs and create programs that instill pride in all students.
