CAMBRIDGE — Dorchester County’s 350th Anniversary Planning Committee has begun laying out programming centered on the theme, “Our Heritage, Our Heart, Our Home,” and the opening of a 50-year-old time capsule.

The main event will take place on Sept. 22 during the annual Dorchester Showcase in Cambridge. Preliminary plans call for creating a “heritage village” with re-enactments, displays and demonstrations.

The committee also discussed other activities and events to commemorate the 350th anniversary, including presentations and performances during the main event, the creation of a “passport” tour of local historical sites, the display of lamp post banners in the cities throughout Dorchester County, designing commemorative items and constructing a new time capsule to be unveiled 50 years from now in 2069.

The committee will be setting up a Facebook group through the I Love Dorchester Facebook page to share information and developments related to the anniversary.
