CAMBRIDGE — Plan to dust off that picnic basket, grab a bottle of wine and a blanket, and head to Long Wharf Park for Shore Shakespeare Company’s production of William Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, May 16 and 17.
This rollicking comedy features not just one, but TWO sets of twins and their adventures, when one set arrives in Ephesus, unknown to, and unaware of, the other. Confusion reigns, and hilarity ensues, as the straight-laced Syracusans come face-to-face with the free-spirited Ephesians.
The Comedy of Errors was Shakespeare’s first big hit. It became the basis for the smash Rogers & Hart Broadway musical The Boys from Syracuse. Performances of The Comedy of Errors will be held al fresco at Long Wharf Park in Cambridge Saturday at 6 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. Both performances are open to the public. Admission is free; donations are gratefully accepted.
An open rehearsal will take place on May 15 commencing at 6:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic and a blanket or lawn chair. Please call 410-690-3165 for weather-related updates.
Director Greg Minahan is a Broadway veteran, having performed for several years in such musicals as Cats and Peter Pan. He has written and directed plays for schools in NYC, and may be remembered by local audiences for playing Mercutio in Shore Shakespeare’s 2014 production of Romeo & Juliet. Mr. Minahan and Chris Rogers as the Antipholuses, and Robbie Spray and Howard Mesick as the Dromios, anchor an accomplished and experienced ensemble.
The Comedy of Errors also features the talents of company co-founder Avra Sullivan as Adriana, Chrissie Barr as Luciana, Brian McGunigle as Ageon, and Julie Yankovich as Amelia, along with Juanita Wieczoreck, John and Jane Terebey, Keith Shaffer, Andrew Mimms and Richard Smith.
A huge investment of time, effort, and money goes into each production. Audiences to support our efforts by making donations of any size. A donation of $15 per person is suggested. Shore Shakespeare Company is a nonprofit, pan-community theatre group, affiliated with the Mid-Shore Community Foundation. The Company encourages and supports participation in all community theatre.
The Comedy of Errors is produced by Shelagh Grasso, the company’s Creative Director. John Wieczoreck is script consultant and dramaturg.
