DCA to celebrate 50 years in 2020

In 2020, DCA celebrates 50 years of art for all! The tradition continues with a full lineup of instructional arts opportunities. Winter classes are just beginning, and offerings include drawing, painting, fiber, ceramics, carving, glass, and more.

Picture Perfect Pets
Students will learn the techniques to achieve that everlasting drawing of a favorite pet. Bring in an 8”x10” photo to work from along with the tools in your desired medium. Jan. 11 – Feb. 15, Saturdays 10 a.m. – noon. Cost – $90 DCA Members, $135.00 Non-members.

Intermediate Watercolors
Beyond the basics in watercolor techniques. Paint what you love, love what you paint. In this 6-week session instructor Barbara Zuehlke helps you find your way using what you already know and building on it.

Wet on wet, wet on dry. You’ll explore the richness of your colors as well as the subtleties. Demonstrations, technique and individualized attention will help to develop your own best techniques and style. Jan. 15 – Feb. 19, Wednesdays 1-4 p.m.
Cost – $90 DCA Members, $135 Non-members

Basic Drawing for
Beginning Artists (Ages 8-13)
A 6-week art class for the young person who has a strong interest in developing their skills. Students will gain confidence and understanding through knowledge learned and experience.

Students will learn to use several different drawing mediums and to develop at their own rate. All materials will be provided. Jan. 16 – Feb. 20, Thursdays 3:30-5 p.m.
Cost: $75 DCA Members, $90 Non-members.

Life Drawing
Study interpretations of the human figure using various mediums. You’ll learn how to show the differences in the skeletal structure and body composition by using shading, sharp and soft line while drawing from a live model.

This class will improve your observational skills and will help develop your personal visual language. Must be 18 or older. Materials list will be available upon registration. Jan. 23 – Feb. 27, Thursdays 6-8 p.m. Cost: $125 DCA Members, $170 Non-members.

Carving Decoys
Learn to carve from world renowned Master Carver Warren Saunders. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced carver you will learn more than you thought possible!

Mr. Saunders has the patience to teach beginners and the depth of knowledge to teach experienced carvers. Students of all levels will learn how to carve using power tools, knives, wire brushes, and paint brushes.

No matter what, if you’ve carved before, or have always wanted to learn, you’ll be amazed at your finished project. Beautifully carved and beautifully painted.

Jan. 22 – April 1, Wednesdays 6-9 p.m. Class Cost: $150 DCA Members, $185 Non-members. Materials Cost – $75 payable to instructor at 1st class.

In the Galleries: Annual Members Show and more!
The Annual Members’ Show kicks off the 50th Anniversary year at DCA. An eclectic mix is featured including two and three-dimensional art, works in fiber, jewelry and more.

Second Saturday Artists’ Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held Jan. 11, 5-7 p.m. with live music and light refreshments. January also features a W. Robert Tolley Retrospective in the front gallery. Tolley is a former Dorchester County educator, artist, and one of the original founders of DCA.
