C-SD Hall of Fame celebrates 2017 members

CAMBRIDGE – The Cambridge-South Dorchester High School Athletic Hall of Fame welcomed new members at an induction ceremony on Oct. 15.
Dietrich Johnson, Tori Willis, Hannah Boettger, Don Washington, Colvin Camper, Roger Eareckson are the individuals who joined the Hall. Pioneer Awards went to the 1967 Mace’s Lane High School Track and Field Team, Richard Drescher of Cambridge High School, and John Simmons of South Dorchester High School.
The 2004 C-SD Baseball Team was also inducted.
C-SD’s Athletic Director Dan Dobronz has guided the Hall of Fame since its inception a few years ago. Serving as master of ceremonies during the event, he said, “The purpose of our Hall of Fame was to bring recognition to our former C-SD athletes.”
Work continues to highlight the contributions to community made by the star athletes of the past. “We are taking all donations, so we can build a huge showcase for all our plaques,” Mr. Dobronz said.
Turnout was heavy for the event, with friends and family of more recent graduates being joined by fans of those who studied and played several decades ago.

DIETRICH JOHNSON recalled his days of dominating the Bayside Conference in the early 1990s.
“Just being a part of the team meant everything,” he said. “I would like to thank Coach Doug Fleetwood.” Mr. Dietrich also expressed his gratitude to coaches Grayson Hurley, Phil Johnson, Kermit Hines and Colvin Camper.

Roger Eareckson was a top coach of several teams at C-SD.
Ben Krewson and Kermit Hines introduced ROGER EARECKSON, who was not only a coach for many years, but also a principal of Cambridge-South Dorchester.
“There is no one I respect more than Coach E,” Mr. Krewson said, using Mr. Eareckson’s old nickname. “I owe a lot to him.”
Mr. Eareckson remembered not only the excitement of the football field and wrestling mat, but also the satisfaction of watching his young charges mature and contribute to their town and county. “You become an adult when you start giving back to your community,” he said.
