YMCA fundraiser set for Nov. 2

CAMBRIDGE — The Pauline F. and W. David Robbins Family YMCA’s fall fundraising event, “Rollin’ on the River,” will take place Nov. 2. Organizers are hoping for a strong turnout, to help them provide the fun and fitness enjoyed by many in Dorchester County.

Branch Executive Director Missy Denault said Friday that the facility last year supplied $135,000 in financial assistance for programs and services. These include after-school programs, swim lessons, summer camps, youth sports, gymnastics, dance, karate and more.

While many scholarships are used by children, the YMCA also offers help to adults, such as single parents and the elderly. “Whatever we need to do, we try to make sure everyone can experience our programs,” Ms. Denault said.

The casual attire, dinner-dance event will be held at the YMCA at 201 Talbot St. in Cambridge, from 6-10:30 p.m. The band Tranzfusion will perform. Live and silent auctions will also be offered.

The Pauline F. & W. David Robbins Family YMCA is one of the area’s leading charitable 501(c)3 organizations. The facility promotes youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

“The Y works side by side with our neighbors every day to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive,” a statement from the group said. “To do our important work, the Y relies on support from members, donors, volunteers and community leaders.”
