Robinson, Abt are county’s top teachers

Hannah Abt is Dorchester County’s First Class Teacher of the Year.

CAMBRIDGE — Congratulations to Dorchester County Public Schools Teacher of the Year Cherie Robinson and First Class Teacher of the Year Hannah Abt! Ms. Robinson teaches aspiring educators at Dorchester Career and Technology Center and Ms. Abt has classroom of energetic pre-kindergarteners at Choptank Elementary School.

These two outstanding teachers represent the great work being done in schools (or, at present, remotely) all over the county. Each will receive gifts generously donated by local businesses, and Ms. Robinson will get the use of a car from the Hertrich Family of Automobile Dealerships for the 2020-2021 school year. She will also represent Dorchester County at the big Maryland Teacher of the Year gala in the fall.

“Be DCPS proud tonight!” a statement from the schools said Thursday evening.

In addition to Ms. Robinson, for Teacher of the Year finalists were: Laurie Tawney (New Directions Learning Academy); Dawn Price (North Dorchester Middle School); Megan Day (Maple Elementary); Ashley Parker (Hurlock Elementary); Valerie Friedel (Sandy Hill Elementary); Jo Ann Dechert (Vienna Elementary); Emma Brant (Choptank Elementary); Kelly Dodson (Warwick Elementary); Amanda Robinson (North Dorchester High School); Erin King (Cambridge-South Dorchester High School); and Ali Rodrigues (Mace’s Lane Middle School).
