CAMBRIDGE — The Rotary Club of Cambridge’s Annual Oyster Roast returns on March 19 at Sailwinds Park in Cambridge. The Oyster Roast was started to help raise money for the revitalization of the World War I Memorial Fountain, at Long Wharf, and the area around the Fountain.

The Oyster Roast, which originally was located at Long Wharf, was also held to bring attention to why the Fountain was originally built. Due to extreme weather in 2015, the Rotary Club moved the Oyster Roast to Sailwinds Park.

From noon to 4 p.m., on the March 19, attendees will be able to enjoy all-you-can-eat local oysters served four different ways, as well as hamburgers and hotdogs, for a cost of $25 per person. While eating, the crowd will be entertained by Bird Dog and the Road Kings, who have been part of the activity since the beginning.

Originally the idea of Rotarian Jeff Hubbard, the Roast has become a major activity of the Rotary Club of Cambridge, as well as the community. Seeing the Fountain working and the new landscaping, people can, again, go to Long Wharf and enjoy the beautiful view of the Fountain, the Lighthouse and the Choptank River. A view unique to Cambridge and Dorchester County.

Proceeds from the Oyster Roast go to the Cambridge Rotary Community Service Foundation, Inc. to be used to continue supporting local needs.
