Dorchester Banner/Susan M. Bautz Cinerra Baine and her daughter Kaylie Jenniton accept a check from Hurlock Councilman Earl Murphy.

At the Nov. 9 Hurlock Town Meeting, Councilman Earl Murphy presented a check for $621.50 to Cinerra Baine for her daughter Kaylie Jenniton, who is battling cancer. The amount was raised at an annual Halloween event, Marshmallows with the Murphys, after Mr. Murphy and his wife Michelle publicly asked for help for Kaylie and her family to help defray necessary travel and treatment costs.

Over 1,000 trick-or-treaters attended the event, and many put cash and checks in the donation jar. Mr. Murphy said, “We hope there’s more that we can do in the future.” An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Kaylie is scheduled on Dec. 6, noon at the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Company. The public is invited.

Parties interested in donating to Kaylie’s treatment may do so at the Hurlock Town Hall.
