Groups join forces to provide Christmas dinner to seniors at Pleasant Day

CAMBRIDGE – The Rotary Club of Cambridge, Cambridge-South Dorchester High School Interact Club, and the Dorchester County Technical School Culinary, Horticulture and Medical Service Departments joined forces on Dec. 15 to feed a Christmas dinner to senior Clients of the Pleasant Day Adult Day Care Center.

Chef Christine Zinnel and her senior culinary class prepared food for over 100 people. Her junior class followed up with some of the cleanup.

When the guests arrived, the room was decorated with center pieces prepared by Terry Nuwer and her Horticulture class. Ms. Farmer, Medical Service teacher and Interact advisor, and her students finished the decorating and helped with the cleanup. They were also on hand to help with activities following the meal.

Eight members of the Cambridge-South Dorchester High School Interact Club, which is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Cambridge, assisted the Rotarians with serving the meal and helping clear away dishes. Interact members helping were Ben Cornwell, president; Ben Doyle, Emily Bloodsworth, Emily Brohawn, Leah Krotee, Conner McCroy, Carrie Price and DaShanna Matthews.

The event was a joint venture with one goal in mind — to help a group of Dorchester County senior citizens know that someone cares. They were shown this through a good hot meal and a lot of smiles.
