DPW Director Ryan White is terminated

Ryan White

CAMBRIDGE — Director of the county’s Department of Public Works Ryan White said Thursday that he had been let go from his job with the county. Mr. White joins the former leaders of the airport, Emergency Medical Services, economic development and the county manager who have been terminated since the new council took office in January.

While some citizens have supported the changes, others have opposed them and questioned the direction Dorchester’s government is taking. Opinions — and votes — on the County Council have also been at odds.

The Banner asked in writing for comment from each council member. Council Vice President Jay Newcomb (District 1) replied, “Won’t discuss personnel.”

Council Member Libby Nagel said, “No comment this is a personnel issue.”

Council Member Ricky Travers (District 3) said, “I am extremely sorry to see him leave. He did a great job for the county while he was here.”

Council Member Lenny Pfeffer (District 4) said, “I feel as though our county has taken another step backwards with the loss of Ryan White. Ryan has always treated the citizens and employees of Dorchester County with the utmost of professionalism and respect. He came to this county with 25 years of experience and knowledge in the public works field and has bettered our system with that experience. It will be hard to find a replacement for Ryan that brings that much to the table. Our loss will be some other county or organization’s gain.”

Council President William Nichols (District 2) did not respond to the request for comment.
