Caroline Summerfest hits a walk-off home run Aug. 21-22

Silhouette Song, an acoustic folk rock band will be one of the performers at this year’s Caroline Summerfest. The band features the husband and wife duo of Justin Bedo on banjo and Brandy Bedo on vocals, mandolin.

DENTON – It’s the bottom of the ninth and it’s all tied up. You can literally feel the energy in the stadium. The batter steps up to the plate and miraculously hits a walk-off homerun. The crowd goes wild. Capture that moment and make it extend into two, jam-packed days of free family fun, and you’ll get this year’s Caroline Summerfest.

Caroline Summerfest, the traditional end of the summer celebration for area families, “Goes to the Big Leagues” on Aug. 21, from 5 to 10 p.m. and on Aug. 22, from noon to 9 p.m. in historic downtown Denton. The rain date for Saturday only is Aug. 23.

The free festival features:

• Pedestrian parade. The parade steps off in front of the Denton Town Office at 7 p.m. on Friday. Compete for cash prizes for the best themed costume or mini-wagon float. On site registration closes at 6:30 p.m. No vehicles are permitted.

• Fireworks display. Fireworks launch from the bottom of Market Street at 9 p.m. on Saturday.

• KidZart!! Enjoy a variety of family-friendly free activities and crafts at the open lot off Market and Third streets under the big tent on both Friday and Saturday until 8 p.m.

• Plus bounces, giant slides and games, face painting, sand sculpting, street performers and other activities that will keep kids and adults busy for hours. And, of course, you can also enjoy the variety of festival foods and gaming vendors, all benefiting local nonprofits.

Free parking and shuttle bus transportation is available from the Health and Public Services Building off Sixth Street (across from Fire Hall) on both days.

A variety of music will be performed on three stages throughout the festival, including:

• Mike Hines and the Look (R&B, hip hop, dance and old school funk)
• Street drummer Tommy Buckets
• 21 Horses Band (country)
• Mike Elzey Trio and Youth Performer Showcase (guitars)
• Silhouette Song (acoustic folk rock)
• New and Used Bluegrass and Jon Simmons
• A Breath of Fresh Air (smooth jazz)
• Jeff Washington Band  (funk, blues, jazz, pop rock and R&B)

Caroline Summerfest is a pet-free, wheel-free and alcohol-free event. Park your bicycle, scooters and skateboards on the bike racks located at Third and Gay streets.
