C-SD Honor Society members bring Christmas to Pleasant Day

CAMBRIDGE — Eight students representing The Ella B. Walters Chapter National Honor Society of Cambridge-South Dorchester High School volunteered to help Pleasant Day Medical Adult Day Care start Christmas. The students are always the very first step in the process that turns Pleasant Day into a Christmas Wonderland.

These eight young men on Oct. 11 unpacked, assembled, fluffed 15 trees, checked lights on 15 trees, painted 23 grapevine wreaths and hung 20 snowflakes on interior windows and hung over 100 wreath hangers, all of this in 3 hours. Their teacher Thomas Mills, National Honor Society faculty advisor said “Helping Pleasant Day get ready for Christmas is an excellent opportunity for the students to fulfill their service requirements for the National Honor Society.”

The Festival of Wreaths opens to the public on Nov. 10, so everything has to happen early. The Holiday Benefit Gala which is the culmination of the Festival of Wreaths is Dec. 1 opening at 5:30 with live entertainment throughout Pleasant Day, a Taste of Dorchester with finger foods provided by restauranteurs and caterers of Dorchester, a Wine Tasting and the silent Auction of Wreaths ends at 7 p.m.

The Live Auction featuring Buddy Foxwell who will be auctioning off about 25 unique items to the highest bidder. And as Buddy Foxwell says “You are not looking for a bargain but helping a lot of Dorchester’s old folks.” All proceeds of this annual fundraiser benefit the Pleasant Day Medical Adult Day Care participants.
