Women’s Day at St. Luke UM Church

CAMBRIDGE — The Women of St. Luke UM Church will be celebrating their Annual Women’s Day on Sunday with the theme “Empowered Women of God.”

Guest minister for the morning service will be the Rev. Elsie M. Ennals of Refuge Temple Church of God in Cambridge. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. and the Rev. Ennals will be accompanied by the Women’s Day Choir of St. Luke.

Guest minister for the 3:30 p.m. program will feature the Rev. Evangelist Wanda L. Johnson of Freedom Baptist Missonary Church in Baltimore.

The Rev. Evangelist Wanda L. Johnson was born in Fort Meade to Theodore E. Cornish and the late Thelma Marie Cornish. Wanda is the youngest and only girl of four siblings. She works for the Community College of Baltimore County, where she is a Program Coordinator in the Department of Continuing Education.

She graduated from Essex Community College receiving her Associate of Arts Degree in General Studies, obtained 116 college credits from Morgan State University in Mental Health Humans Services, and has studied with the University of Maryland University College pursuing a Management of Business Degree. Her is in pursuit of her degree in Theology in the fall of 2018.

She has earned several educational units through the National Congress of Christian Education through the Missionary Baptist Convention of Maryland. Wanda has also successfully earned her certification in the required curriculum in Evangelism at the Life Changing Institute, Mt. Pleasant Church and Ministries, Baltimore.

She became a Christian at an early age and was raised in church at St. Paul Freewill Baptist Baltimore. She has performed with “Preacher Kidz Production” in live gospel stage plays and is affiliated with Gamma Sigma Sigma National Sorority, Inc.

The Rev. Elsie M. Ennals of Cambridge is the daughter of Rita Travers and the late James Travers of Church Creek; wife of Oliver Ennals Sr. and mother of three children (Tianne Ennals Morris, Oliver Ennals Jr. and Antwine Ennals). She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1972. Graduated from Chesapeake College with Associate Degree in Office Education in 1984.

Rev. Ennals joined the Center Street Church of God in 1983 (referred to now as the Refuge Temple Church of God.) She did her initial sermon on Oct. 29, 1994 under Pastor Hattie Stanley. She serves on the Ministrial Board under Pastor Cynthia Porter and Elder Rod Porter. Rev. Ennals is a Sunday School teacher, Missionary, Secretary of Ladies Ministry, and is in charge of 9 a.m. Sunday prayer.

Rev. Ennals received her Associate Degree in Theology in July 1997 under Dr. Ray Chamberlain at the Christian World College of Theology. Six years later she went back and received her Bachelor Degree in Theology in July 2013.

She worked at Rob Roy for 13 years and recently retired from the Dorchester County Detention Center. She worked as a Secretary for 27 years.

Chairperson for Women’s Day is Dionne Sampson and host pastor is the Rev. Jerome E. Tilghman Sr. The public is invited.
