Garden Club’s Aug. 14 meeting, ‘Down the Garden Path’

CAMBRIDGE — Dorchester Garden Club members gathered at the Cambridge Yacht Club for the Aug. 14 meeting, themed “Down the Garden Path.” Members were welcomed by hostesses Wanda Ciekot and Susie Middleton as they brought in their horticulture and design entries for the mini-flower show, which featured a lovely selection of late-summer horticulture from members’ gardens and outstanding design entries.

Judges for Division I Horticulture were Gloria Warner and Ellen Higgins and Division II Design were Wanda Ciekot and Patti Hopkins. Club member and Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland District I Director, Susie Middleton, served as Consultant.

Dorchester Garden Club President, Julia Berman, called the meeting to order and reports were given by committee chairmen. Guest attendees Sandy Lucas and Bev Waggoner were introduced and new member Evelyn Renkwitz was officially announced as an active member of the club.

Dorchester Garden Club annual Picnic and Awards Ceremony

CAMBRIDGE — The Dorchester Garden Club’s Annual Picnic and Awards Ceremony for the 2014-2015 club program was held on June 12, at the home of club member, Susie Middleton. The event featured a wonderful buffet lunch prepared by club members and hostesses Patti Lucas Hopkins and Lynne Davis welcomed attendees and helped ensure that all details were handled smoothly. Following lunch, the awards for 2015 were presented.

President Julia Berman presented the Dorchester Garden Club Perennial Bloom Award for 2015 to Joan P. Johnson. This prestigious award is given to members who have made the club grow and bloom through their exceptional support of the club’s goals and objectives.

The program was then turned over to Patti Hopkins to present the 2015 Horticulture and Design Awards:

Division I Horticulture competition for the Lednum Cup: 1st Place Beverly Shelly, 2nd Place Cookie Brohawn, 3rd Place Susie Middleton, Honorable Mention Joan P. Johnson.
