Wendy’s, Goodwill could open in Oct.

CAMBRIDGE — It looks like Halloween could be the magic day for a couple of members of the Cambridge business community. President of Fairchild Properties, LLC Charlie Fairchild said Thursday that Wendy’s restaurant and the new Goodwill Industries store will be open by that late October day in the Cambridge Marketplace on Route 50.

“Everything is going quite well,” he said. “We’re under construction for Goodwill,” in the space formerly occupied by an off-track betting parlor.
Mr. Fairchild said there will be plenty of progress made in the coming months, as work continues. “We have the sewer in for Wendy’s,” he said.

As the restaurant is built, the avenue leading from U.S. 50 will also be extended to bring customers to the eatery. “Wendy’s is actually pulling their permits as we speak,” he said.

The discount store could be open in time for the holiday season. “I think on Oct. 15, we’re going to turn everything over to Goodwill,” Mr. Fairchild said.

The builder also has plans for a long-vacant site in another mall on U.S. 50. “We’re planning to close on the Metro in January,” he said. The Metro supermarket opened and closed in the late 1990s.
Mr. Fairchild said he hopes to develop the site into a new county Health Department facility.

Fairchild Properties, LLC is based in Alexandria, Va. The company is developing a mixed-use concept at Cambridge Marketplace that will include shops, restaurants, and a medical facility.
