CAMBRIDGE — Delmarva Power will be hosting a community open house from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 23 at Delmarva Community Services, 2450 Cambridge Beltway to provide its customers and communities with input where they can meet DP’s project team and learn more about the following project.

According to a letter sent to Delmarva Power’s customers across the Delmarva Peninsula, “we are seeing the impacts of more frequent and more severe weather. To strengthen our local energy infrastructure against more extreme weather and improve reliability for customers in Dorchester County. we are planning to rebuild and upgrade our existing East New Market to Cambridge transmission line located near your home or business.”

This project includes replacing wood poles with new state-of-the-art 85 to 95 foot steel poles, as well as upgrading the existing transmission line with new wire and other modern electric devices. Construction is slated to begin in the fall of 2020 and be completed in 2022. “This improved infrastructure will lead to fewer storm-related outages and better reliability for customers.”

“Maintaining the safe and reliable service our customers expect requires ongoing efforts to modernize the local energy grid. These upgrades are part of a broader reliability improvement plan we are implementing in Maryland. Customers continue to benefit from this work and have seen the frequency of electric outages decrease nearly 40 percent over the last five years,” said John R. Petito, Delmarva Power’s public affairs manager.

“As always, safety for our customers, communities, and employees is our top priority. We will make every effort to minimize any disturbance to properties near the work area. We will continue to provide you with updates as the project progresses. Please feel free to contact me at 410-860-6415 with any questions or concerns,” he said.
